Budapest Airport received the award for best airline marketing at the World Route Development Forum, the most prestigious event of the aviation industry globally, currently underway in Adelaide, Australia. With this result, the Hungarian airport came out ahead of gateways such as Amsterdam, Istanbul, Hong Kong, or Changi Airport of Singapore. Budapest Airport continues to promote Hungary and its capital in the ultra-competitive market of airports and airlines.
Budapest Airport received a major prize at the World Routes Marketing Awards 2019 based on votes cast by airlines. The airport of the Hungarian capital proved to be the best not only in its own category of airports serving passengers between 4 and 20 million per year but the professional jury also selected BUD’s marketing in the overall category. The award for best airline marketing is a recognition of the effective campaigning activity by which Budapest Airport contributes to launching new routes and the promotion of existing ones.
Kam Jandu, the chief commercial officer of Budapest Airport said, ”We are extremely proud to have received this award, as it recognizes the many years of effort we have applied as a team. Budapest Airport launched 34 new flights over the last twelve months together with our airline partners, and now we received the greatest acknowledgment, the Oscar of our profession.”
Dr. Rolf Schnitzler, CEO of Budapest Airport underlined, ”Airlines do not fly here just because we have a nice airport. The attraction of Budapest and Hungary for tourists and the economic role of the county in the region are the main drivers of new aerial connections. We are very proud to have been effectively contributing with our airline marketing activities – voted the best globally – to the results of the country, successfully convincing an increasing number of carriers to choose Budapest.”
In the spring, Budapest Airport already received the best airline marketing award at the Routes Europe conference, which meant automatic qualification for the world finals. The bid of the Hungarian team has now also grabbed the first prize at the World Route Development Forum in Adelaide. At the conference – similarly to the international aviation market – there is strong competition between airports trying to persuade representatives and decision-makers of airlines to launch new routes.
